In working towards your MBA degree, you’re going to have the opportunity to write on a wide variety of subjects. A common MBA essay assignment is on consulting, a subject that gives students a lot of trouble. We’ve asked some experts to develop a method for composing a great MBA essay on the subject. So here is everything you need to know:
There are a lot of topics one can write about in this assignment. Spend ample time brainstorming and developing a topic that is both unique and interesting. Look at your readings or lesson notes and identify any areas about consulting you would like to explore. The more enthusiastic you are about your topic the more enthusiastic your writing will be.
Next, conduct both some background and some in-depth academic research. Start online, where you can generally get yourself familiar with some of the bigger issues and some key terminology. Next, head down to the library and conduct in-depth research using academic resources. Stick to material that is current, preferably written within the last three years.
Gather your notes and develop a few ideas for a thesis. Your thesis statement should clearly point out the side you take on a specific issue and be a state that is arguable. This doesn’t have to be highly detailed or perfect in any way; it needs to only be a draft that can guide your work as you develop both your outline and start writing the first draft.
Create an outline and use to guide your writing. Start with the body paragraphs, where you will bring up all main discussion points. Make sure each paragraph has a topic sentence, supporting evidence, and a sentence or two conveying your ideas on the topic. Use transition sentences to move from one topic to the next.
You should write your introduction and conclusion paragraphs after your body paragraphs. The reason for this is that it is much easier to write summaries of your work after you have had time to determine the direction your argument took. Revise your thesis statement so that it fits your body paragraphs more precisely.
Finally, be sure you revise, edit and proofread your work before submitting it to your instructor. At this level, your completed work is expected to be flawless – using clear and direct English as well as being completely error free. Spend plenty of time on this to ensure you submit your best possible work.
